Rotavator / Rotary Tiller are composed of L-shaped tines mounted on a shaft and shrouded by a shield. The Rotavator is pulled behind a tractor while PTO of the tractor drives the shaft of rotary tiller through gear and chain arrangement. The rotating tines take the incremental bites of the soil. The soil after cutting is lifted up and rotated along with the tines and thrown back. This action makes the soil well pulverized. The cutting knives mounted on a horizontal power driven shaft operate at about 300 rpm. Rotavator is usually 3 to 4 feet wide and requires 10 to 15 horse power per foot of width.

 Uses of Rotavator / Rotary Tiller:
Several different types of Rotavator or rotary tiller are available for varying field conditions. The use of Rotavator is becoming more and more popular in rice and cotton growing areas to till stubble field of rice, sugarcane, cotton and corn. It is also useful for green manuring and to incorporate stubbles into the soil which increases organic matter of the soil. It is reported that the single stroke of Rotavator does the job equivalent to one plowing and two harrowing simultaneously.
it can be used for;
- To break clods and pulverize the soil.
- To increase straw, manure, fertilizer, lime or green manure into the soil.
- To chop us corn stalks, cotton sticks, rice/wheat stubbles, etc. after harvesting crops.
Tractor required for 42 blades rotavator is of 60 horsepower. In Pakistan 60HP range tractors are NH Ghazi and MF 260. However MF 375 and NH 640 tractor can be used for the same purpose.
